Come on we all know that is not true. Like the other 300 attendees we were in it to win it! Unfortunately it was not to be. Our second time short listed at Northamptonshire Business Excellence Awards, maybe it will be third time lucky. Watch this space.
It was not all bad news, Thursday 17th November at the Barceló Hotel in Daventry proved to be a fantastic evening for the New Edge team (and partners). After all we got to see and hear celebrity host Tom O’Connor complete his twenty minute retro set. We are proud to say that the whole team made the most of the fantastic surroundings and entertaining company (yes Lawrence we mean you!). A really great evening was had by one and all. Some great shots of some of the team behaving very civilised before the alcohol took hold. read more »

Yahoo’s site explorer has met it’s maker, R.I.P on the 21st November 2011. You are now met with an obituary type message which saddens me, the 22nd November was a day full of hope but instead it turned into a research day to find the best alternative and failed miserably.
Understanding why Yahoo decided to do this is beyond me but we are led to believe that halting to use one tool in favour of the whole suite that Bing offers is a good option for webmasters. Obviously Bing tools have their uses, but at this stage I don’t think they stand the test of time that the simple site explorer command did, I mean my toolbar is bare without it, I must have used it a dozen times a day for the last 5 years, I have withdrawal symptoms as I type this. read more »

Seth Godin (The Big Red Fez) http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0743220862 refers to CTA’s as bananas and the users as monkeys – make sure each of your web pages has a nice bunch of bananas for the monkeys to choose from! Although I personally dislike the analogy, the principle is correct. CTA’s make your users do or buy something, maybe simple as share a page or add a product to the shopping cart. read more »

Understanding Google+

Businesses are constantly looking for new ways to help utilise their brand awareness online and with Google+ announcing last week that it is finally rolling out pages for businesses, brands and products, I thought I would gain a better understanding about the search giants new social network that seems to be causing much controversy.
Before last week, Google+ has focused on connecting people with other people but now it wants to allow users to form relationships with all the things they care about whether it’s a local business or global brand. The search company says that its network has attracted more than 40 million users in the months since its launch however the real discussion is what users are doing once they’ve joined. Much traffic analysis has reported that the traffic has fallen off a peak since it was introduced. Although the network uses the ‘Circles’ feature, it doesn’t seem to distinguish itself from its competitors in a major way, of course it is still early days. read more »

I have discussed SEO several times with friends in many industries but one occasion stands out, the time my friend for many years who works in the recruitment industry spouted the immortal words “you’re like soooo SEO dude”, I was taken a back, not only was his Americano type statement met with several minutes of child-like laughter but it rang true with me on many levels. It has stuck in my head for many years and come up in conversation with said friend on many occasions since. read more »
